BRADFORD, Pa. – The Tomcat women's basketball squad suffered a 62-52 season-opening loss at Pitt-Bradford Tuesday evening.
Thiel (0-1) shot just 27.1 percent (19-70) from the field and 43.5 percent (10-23) from the free throw line despite managing a 55-41 edge on the glass.
Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) totaled a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Tomcats.
Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) added six points and 10 rebounds while
Rianne Thornton (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) helped out with six points and five boards.
Pitt-Bradford (1-0) shot 33.8 percent (24-71) and forced 25 Tomcat turnovers in the season-opening win.
Alicia Kimmel led three Panthers in double figures, tallying 15 points and nine rebounds. Ashley Seidenstrickel finished with 12 points and eight boards while Maria Costanza chipped in with 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

Kathleen Thorr (Albion, Pa./Northwestern) free throw at the 15:19 mark of the opening half gave the visiting Tomcats a 6-3 lead, but the Panthers, outscoring Thiel 10-0 over the next 4:50, opened up a 13-6 lead with 10:29 to go.
Davis' layup at the 8:54 mark trimmed the Pitt-Bradford lead to two, 13-11, but a 14-3 run capped by a Kimmel jumper with just over five minutes remaining in the half saw the Panther's extend their lead to 13, 27-14. Pitt-Bradford carried a 33-21 lead into the break.
Muffley's three at the eight-minute mark pulled Thiel back to within 10, 54-44, but the Panthers managed to maintain a double-digit lead down the stretch in preserving the 10-point victory.
Thiel returns to action on Friday, Nov. 18 at Wilmington College's Hampton Inn & Suites/Damon's Grill Tip-Off Tournament. They will take on the host Lady Quakers at 6 p.m.
