GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's basketball squad was dealt a 77-65 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss by visiting Thomas More College Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Chelsea Tolliver finished with a team-high 15 points for Thomas More, followed by Nicole Dickman's 14. Katie Kitchen chipped in with 12 points off of the Saints bench and Katie Kees paced the Saints rebounding efforts as she finished with nine. Thomas More finished with a 42-33 edge on the glass and shot 50.0 percent (29-58) from the field in the contest.
Sophomore
Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa., Western Reserve Academy) led three in double figures, finishing with 17 points and five rebounds. Sophomore
Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio, Howland) added 13 points and six rebounds while junior
Rianne Thornton (Trotwood, Ohio, Trotwood-Madison) chipped in with 11 points, seven assists, seven steals, and three rebounds. The Tomcats shot 38.5 percent (25-65) from the field while shooting 80.0 percent (12-15) from the free throw line and also committed a season-low 13 turnovers.
The Saints (15-0, 7-0), ranked number three in the latest D3hoops.com top 25 ranking, saw its first-half lead of as many as 13 trimmed to just six going into the break. Thiel (3-12, 2-5) managed to force 11 first-half turnovers and closed the opening half on a 7-2 run.
Senior
Jasmin Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa., Wilkinsburg) jumper at the 15:10 mark of the second half brought the Tomcats back to within six, 42-36, but the Saints put together a 13-4 run over the next 5:34 to extend their lead to 15, 55-40. Thiel (3-12, 2-5) would cut the Thomas More lead to 10, 60-50, with just under seven minutes to play, but the Saints would again shut the door on any Tomcat attempt to cut the lead to single digits.
Thiel is set to return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Chatham University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
