MONACA, Pa. -- The Thiel College women's soccer team ended a five game losing streak by defeating the Nittany Lions of Penn State Beaver by a score of 5-0 on Wednesday in Monaca.
The Tomcats took advantage of poor defense by the Nittany Lions as they shot 56 times and put 41 of those shots on goal.
Thiel's first goal came in the 31st minute of play as freshman defender
Kelsey Adair (Ephrata, Pa., Ephrata Senior ) scored her first collegiate goal to put the Tomcats in front 1-0. Ten minutes later, Adair placed a pass to senior midfielder
Stephanie Yeo (Valencia, Pa., Mars) who found the back of the net to give Thiel the 2-0 advantage heading into half-time.
The second half saw more success as the Tomcats struck quickly on sophomore midfielder
Amber Schultis (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin)first goal of the season to make the lead swell to 3-0 just two minutes after the second half had begun.
The last twelve minutes belonged to freshman midfielder
Elizabeth Lengyel (Munhall, Pa., Steel Valley ) as she scored two goals just one minute apart. The first came at the 78:13 mark off of a pass from fellow freshman midfielder
Alison House (Youngstown, Ohio/Liberty). The second goal of the night for Lengyel was unassisted in the 79th minute and gave the Tomcats a 5-0 lead.
The game would end by the same score as Thiel captured its second victory of the season.
Senior goalkeeper
Jill Harry (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) recorded her first shut-out of the season as she made five saves in net for the Blue and Gold.
The Tomcats will be back in action Saturday when they open PAC play in Pittsburgh, Pa., as they travel to Chatham University. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
