'Cats Swept by Bison

GREENVILLE, PA. (April 29, 2010) – The Thiel College softball team was swept on Thursday, by the Bethany College Bison by scores of, 2-8 and 4-5.

In game one, the Bison were the first to get runs on the board with a pair of RBI singles in the second inning.  Then, they went on to add two more runs in the top of the sixth to go up, 4-0, on the Tomcats.

Thiel College would battle back in the bottom of the sixth, when Emily Batiz (Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg Area) stroked an RBI double to centerfield, followed by a RBI single from Ashley McLimans (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg), cutting the Bethany lead in half.

It wouldn't be long before the Bethany offense answered, however, scoring four runs in the top of seventh inning, putting the lead out of the Tomcats' reach.

Game two saw Bethany College strike first again by notching a score in the bottom of the third inning.  The Tomcats fought back in the top of the fourth, when Laura Davin (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) blasted a two-run double to right center, putting Thiel up, 2-1, on the visiting Bison.  Tomcat senior, Elise Moore (Apollo, PA/Kiski), pushed the lead to, 3-1, in the following inning, when she poked an RBI single to the outfield.

The Bethany bats would once again catch fire, however, posting yet another four run inning in the fifth, establishing a lead that the Thiel women would never surpass.

Next, Thiel College softball heads to Grove City, Pa. on Saturday, May 1 to face the Wolverines in a doubleheader with major postseason implications.  The Tomcats need to win at least one of the games in order to clinch a spot in the PAC tournament.  The doubleheader starts at 1 p.m.
