PITTSBURGH (February 20, 2010) -- The Thiel College women's basketball team dropped their season finale, 43-71, to the Chatham University Cougars on Friday.
After the women of Thiel managed to keep pace with the Cougars through the early part of first half, Chatham caught fire from beyond the arc, connecting on four consecutive trifectas in a two minute span. This stint of unconsciousness propelled the Cougars to a 15-0 run, and gave them a lead that the visiting Tomcats would not surmount.
While Thiel outrebounded the Cougars, 39-30, Chatham's bench proved to be the deciding factor in the contest, outscoring the Thiel women, 36-5.
Freshman five, Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland), led the way for the women of Thiel, narrowly missing a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds, while swatting two shots. Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) and Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) each contributed eight points in the loss.
