Greenville, Pa. (February 13, 2010) -- The Thiel College women's basketball team lost, 71-51, on Saturday to the Westminster College Titans.
Halfway through the first, the Tomcat women managed to keep the game within two scores until the Titans sprinted out front, in the form of a 16-3 run.
Despite a strong defensive and offensive effort in the second half, the women of Thiel couldn't get within striking distance of the lead, as Westminster pulled away.
Sophomore forward, Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel), led the way with a 24 point, 13 rebound double-double, while Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland), just missed a double-double, tallying nine points and eight rebounds, to go along with two blocked shots.
The women of Thiel outshot the visiting Titans, 40%-36%, but Westminster's offensive rebounding proved to be the deciding factor in the contest, as they posted 21 to the Tomcats' seven.
The Tomcats return to action Wednesday, Feb. 17 for a 5:30 p.m. match up with the Thomas More Saints at Beeghly Gymnasium.
