EDINBORO, Pa. – Despite a season-high 23 points from senior
Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa., George Junior Republic) the Thiel College men's basketball squad fell to Edinboro University 81-71 Tuesday evening at McComb Fieldhouse in Edinboro.
Adams totaled 23 points and six assists for Thiel (2-2), with 18 of his 23 coming in the first half of action. Adams connected on 5-of-7 shots from the field, including 5-of-6 from beyond the three-point line.
Sophomore
Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio, Lutheran East) added 18 points and five rebounds off of the Tomcat bench while sophomore
Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio, Kennedy Catholic) chipped in with 13 points and tied a career high with 13 rebounds.
Edinboro (2-1) saw four players finish in double figures, led by Clint Nicholson's 21-point effort. Cory Somerville added 20 points and 10 rebounds while Anthony Lytle and Danny Walsh each chipped in with 10.
The Scots pushed their first-half lead to as many as nine (20-11) with 11:20 remaining before the break. The Tomcats grabbed a four-point (34-30) advantage with 1:42 to go in the first before entering the break tied at 36-36.
The second half saw nine ties and three lead changes. A layup by sophomore
Aundra Jones (Youngstown, Ohio, Kennedy Catholic) tied the game at 65-65 with 3:33 to play before a Lytle dunk with 51 seconds remaining extended the Scots lead to nine, 76-67. Rozenblad knocked down one of two free throws with 18 seconds to play to bring the Tomcats back to within three, 77-74, but Edinboro managed to hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to bring home the seven-point victory.
Thiel opens its 2010-11 home schedule on Monday, Nov. 29 when it hosts Penn State Fayette. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Beeghly Gymnasium.
