Washington, Pa. (January 30, 2010) -- The Thiel College women's basketball team's record fell to 6-12 overall Saturday, when they suffered a 69-34 loss to the Presidents of the Washington and Jefferson College.
The Presidents sprinted out the gates in the form of a 20-2 lead in the first half; a run that proved to be the knockout punch to the visiting Tomcat women. The Thiel women seemed to deflate offensively in the face of a suffocating President's defense, that held the Tomcats to nine first half points, on 15 percent shooting.
The women of Thiel were led by freshman five,
Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland), who tallied 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
While the Tomcats finished with a slight, 12-13, edge in turnovers over the Presidents, losing the battle of the boards (28-48) and field goal percentage (20 percent - 48 percent) proved to be too much to overcome.
The women of Tomcat basketball return to action Wednesday, Feb. 3 when they host the Bethany College Bison for a 6 p.m. match up.
