NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Jan. 13,2010) – Westminster College erased an early double-digit deficit to down the Thiel College men , 88-86, in PAC basketball action at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium Wednesday evening.
Thiel played an impressive first half, building a lead as 13 points, and entered the intermission with a, 49-41, advantage. The Titans (5-10; 2-3 PAC) responded by opening the second half with a 14-to-2 run, which put them up by a game-high four points just five minutes into the period.
The Tomcats would regain their footing, however, eventually reclaiming the lead, 69-68, on a Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) and-one free throw conversion.
Thiel increased its lead to as many as five, but the resilient Titans battled back to retake the lead once and for all with 4:15 to play.
Rozenblad led Thiel with 27 points and 12 rebounds to earn his third double-double of the season. Junior Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic) scored 26 points to go along with a game-high six assists.
Ryne Murray paced the Titan offense with 22 points.
Despite domination on the boards to the tune of 37-26 in favor of the Tomcats, Thiel shot just over 40 percent from the floor in the second half, while the Titans converted at a 60 percent clip. The Tomcats shot 51.6 percent from the floor in the first half, with Westminster compiling a 50 percent period.
Thiel (6-8; 2-3 PAC) returns to action on Saturday when they visit Thomas More for a 3 p.m. contest.
