Grove City, Pa. (February 24, 2009) -- After handing the Tomcat women their last loss of the regular season by eleven points, the Wolverines probably assumed they had Thiel dead in the water. But, after Wednesday's 65-51 Thiel College victory, the reports of a Tomcat demise were greatly exaggerated.
The first half proved to be a stalemate between the Tomcats and their cross county rival's, with Grove City ending the half with a razor thin 25-24 advantage. The second half proved to be a different story however, with Thiel bursting out of the gates to the tune of 16-4 run, lead by Tomcat tandem,
Amber Bodrick (Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) and
Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel), exploding for a combined 28 points after the half.
The second half saw Thiel play an unrelenting style of defense that forced the Wolverines to cough the ball up a total of 20 times. The Tomcat's also tallied up ten steals in the second half lead by Bodricks four and Kim Stitt's two.
Bodrick was an force for the Tomcat's scoring 29 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, accumulating five steals, and blocking three shots, while Davis dropped in 16 points and grabbed eight boards.
The Tomcat's exorcised their rebounding demons from their last Mercer County matchup, outrebounding the Wolverines 39-36, with 19 of the 39 being of the offensive variety.
With the victory Thiel advances to the second round of the PAC Tournament, where they face the Thomas More Saints, Friday in Crestview Hills, Ky.
