Golden Tornadoes Blow Past 'Cats

Beaver, Pa. (February 18, 2009) -- The Thiel College women's basketball team continued their struggles against opponents they beat earlier in the season on Wednesday with a 46-70 loss to the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes.  This marks the third time the Tomcats have lost to an opponent that they had previously defeated.

Thiel couldn't seem to find their shooting touch converting on just 30 percent of their shots from the field and 25 percent from the charity stripe.  That compared with Geneva converting on 44 percent of their shots proved to be bad news for the visiting Tomcats.

Thiel was lead by sophomore forward, Kim Stitt (Hermitage, PA/Hickory), who scored 10 points, grabbed ten boards and blocked two shots, while freshman guard, Rianne Thornton (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison), dropped in 10 points of her own to go along with three steals.  Freshman, Danielle Bell (Youngstown, OH/Campbell Memorial), contributed seven points and five rebounds in the losing effort.

Geneva's Michawn Rich proved to be too much for Thiel after scoring 19 points and snatching 17 rebounds.

Thiel will return to action when the Wolverines of Grove City come to Greenville, Pa. Saturday, Feb. 21 to see who will be the fourth seed in the upcoming PAC Tournament.
