Latrobe, Pa. (December 2, 2009) -- The Thiel College women's basketball team dropped their fourth game of the season, 63-72, to the Saint Vincent College Bearcats on Wednesday.
The Thiel women and the Bearcats spent most of the first half trading baskets, with the Tomcats pulling closer as St. Vincent tried to pull away. The Tomcats put on a strong first half performance, led by
Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel)' (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peters Chanel) 12-point, seven rebound in the half.
But, turnovers proved to be the nail in the proverbial coffin for the Tomcat's as they turned the ball over 18 times in the first half and continued their stretch of bad luck with 19 in the second. This opened the window for the Bearcats to keep Thiel at arm's length for the duration of the contest, never letting them get closer than ten points in the second half.
In the loss, Thiel was led by Davis' team-high 16 point and game-high 14 rebound effort. Freshman forward,
Kelly Barzak (Warren, OH/Howland) (Warren, Ohio/Howland) contributed 10 points, six boards, and two blocks, while first-year swing,
Kelly Muffley (Salsburg, Pa./Western Reserve Academy) (Saltsburg, PA / Western Reserve Academy) added nine points and three rebounds.
The Tomcats won the battle on the boards 43-32, while turned the ball over 37 times to the Bearcats' 14.
The women of Thiel head to Beaver Falls, Pa. to face the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes Saturday, Dec. 5 for a 1 p.m. match up.
