Marietta, Ohio (November 29, 2009) -- With their strongest defensive performance of the season, the Thiel College women's basketball team picked up their second win of the season on Sunday when they beat the Oberlin College Yeomen, 75-63.
The Tomcat jumped out the gates to a 16-6 lead in the first half and maintain that momentum over the course of the first half shooting at a 61 percent clip and 49 percent for the game. The Thiel College defense showed their claws has the held the Yeomen to shooting just below 26.8 percent.
Sophomore forward,
Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peters Chanel), scored a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds en route to an all-tournament nod. Freshman big, Kelly Barzack (Warren, Ohio/Howland) contributed ten points, five rebounds, three blocks and three steals, while
Kacey Landis (Williamsfield, OH / Pymatuning Valley), Nina Gabrelcik (Niles, Ohio/Niles McKinley) (Niles, OH / Niles McKinley) and Jasmin Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Wilkinsburg) (Pittsburgh, Pa./Wilkinsburg) each added nine points.
The Tomcat women head down to Latrobe, Pa. on Wednesday, Dec. 2 for a 6:00 p.m. match up with the Bearcats of St. Vincent College Bearcats.
