Pittsburgh, Pa. (November 16, 2009) -- The Thiel Colllege women's basketball team dropped their first game of the season, 35-57, to the La Roche College Red Hawks on Monday.
The Red Hawks sprinted out the gates with a 23-8 run in the first half and the Tomcats were forced to play catch for the remainder of the contest.
Thiel forward,
Kelly Barzack (Warren, Ohio/Howland), was the only Tomcat to reach double figures with 10 points and eight rebounds, while the sophomore combo of
Kacey Landis ( Williamsfield, OH / Pymatuning Valley) and
Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) each tallied seven points. Landis also gathered a team-high nine rebounds.
While the Tomcat defense remained stout in holding La Roche to shooting a mere 31 percent from the field, the Thiel offense sputtered finishing the game shooting at 27 percent clip.
The women of Thiel basketball return to action Tuesday, Nov. 17 when they head back to Pittsburgh face Carlow University.
