WASHINGTON, Pa. – Thiel College recorded a 23-16 victory over Washington & Jefferson College in wrestling action on Friday evening at the Henry Memorial Center.
Thiel (8-11, 1-1 PAC) opened the dual meet with five consecutive victories, four of which came by major decision.
Sophomore 125-pounder Rob Miller (Transfer, Pa., Reynolds) opened the meet by earning his eighth-straight victory and ending W&J freshman Zach Cecchetti's 14-match win streak in the process following an 11-2 major decision win. Miller improved his record to 20-3.
The Tomcats' Corey Brown (Greenville, Pa., Reynolds) and Mason Stewart (Greenville, Pa., Reynolds)each notched major decisions and Alec Miller (Transfer, Pa., Grove City) earned an, 8-5, win to give Thiel a formidable lead.
The Presidents notched their first win at 165 pounds as sophomore John Sabatelli collected an 11-2 major decision against Thiel's Devin Todd (Kissimmee, Fla., Osceola).
W&J senior Mike Frank added a 6-4 win at 174 pounds, but TC freshman Patrick Morris (Graysville, Pa., West Greene) answered with a 17-7 major decision for the Tomcats.
W&J sophomore Alex Cressley recorded a fall in 4:40 at 197 pounds and freshman heavyweight Taylor Potts rounded out the W&J winners with a 4-2 triumph in the final match of the night.
Thiel returns to action on Feb. 7 when they visit Baldwin-Wallace. The PAC Championships will be held the following Saturday (Feb. 14) at the Henry Memorial Center featuring Thiel, W&J and Waynesburg.
