Waynesburg, Pa. (January 24, 2009) -- The Thiel College women's basketball team continue their good fortune on the road, with a 57-56 squeaker over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets.
Thiel's defense held the Yellow Jackets to shooting just 24 percent from the field in second half, evaporating Waynesburg's nine point first half lead. This stout defensive effort brought the score to 55-56 with just seven seconds remaining in the contest, and the Thiel had possesion. The ball was tipped as Thiel was bringing the ball up court, bouncing into the waiting hands of freshman forward Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peters Chanel), who sank a baseline jumper to take the game and their sixth road game of the year.
Senior swing Amber Bodrick (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) finished the day with a game-high 21 points, to go along with nine board and three assists, while Davis finished with ten points and five rebounds. Senior guard Catie Sieber (Glenshaw, Pa./North Hills) (Glenshaw, Pa/North Hills) contributed nine points and five rebounds to the victory.
Peachy Trader's Road Warriors make the final stop of their three-game PAC road tour Jan. 28 at Crestview Hills, KY. to face the Saints of Thomas More College for their 5:30 p.m. match up.
