'Cats Prove to be Road Warriors with Victory

Grove City, Pa. (January 21, 2009) -- The Thiel College women's basketball team left Grove City with a their fifth road win of the season in the form of a 54-44 victory over the Wolverines.

The first half proved to be the classic example of when an irresistible force comes clashing with an immovable object, as Tomcat senior swing, Amber Brodrick, and Wolverine sophomore forward, Christine Slater, dueled in a matchup comparable to an old western shootout.  Matching each other shot for shot, and point for point, there seemed to be no give in either player, as Bodrick outscored Slater 15-14 but the Wolverines got the better of the Tomcats 26-27 at the half.

The second half became less about the offensive performance of a few players and more about the lockdown defense that is becoming the 'Cats staple.  Thiel held Grove City scoreless over the first eight minutes of the half and jumped out to a seven point lead that would be stretched to ten points by the final whistle.

Bodrick finished the day with 23 points, on 11-20 shooting, and grabbed seven rebounds, while sophomore forward, Kim Stitt (Hermitage, PA/Hickory), score eight points and grabbed a team-high nine boards.  Senior guard, Catie Sieber (Glenshaw, Pa./North Hills), contributed six points and six rebounds to the victory.

For Grove City, Slater scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, with Krista Beechy adding ten points.

Peachy Trader and the Road Warriors will make the second stop on their three-game PAC tour in Waynesburg, Pa. Jan. 24 to face the Yellow Jackets at 5:30 p.m..  The Tomcats will be looking to avenge the Dec. 3 64-66 loss they suffered at the hands of the Ladies in Orange.
