WEXFORD, Pa. (Sept. 2, 2008) – Two Thiel College student-athletes we're named Presidents' Athletic Conference players of the week for the season's first week of competition. Volleyball player Abbey Kiger (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) was recognized for her solid effort in the Mariette River City Tournament Aug. 29-30 and women's soccer player Jill Harry (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) nailed down the accolade by posting a shutout in her team's season opener.
Kiger, a junior outside hitter, led Thiel to a 3-1 mark and the team championship at the Marietta River City Invitational in Marietta, Ohio this past weekend. In four matches, she posted 70 kills (4.31 kpg), 71 digs (4.44 dpg) and seven service aces. For her efforts, she was selected to the all-tournament team.
Harry, a sophomore goalkeeper, posted 110 scoreless minutes in net for the Tomcats in their season opener, a 0-0 double-overtime tie against Mount Aloysius on Saturday. She posted three saves for Thiel in the contest.
