NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Feb. 16) -- The Westminster College women's basketball squad recorded a 69-46 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over visiting Thiel College Saturday afternoon.
Westminster's (14-9, 7-6) Emilee Ackerman led the Titans with her 31 point, 13 rebound effort. Terese Marszalak added 10 points and five boards. The Titans finished with a 43-29 advantage on the glass while shooting 48.0 percent (24-50) from the floor 19-of-31 (61.3%) from the free throw line.
Thiel (7-15, 4-9) freshman forward Kim Stitt (Hermitage/Hickory) (Hermitage/Hickory) was the lone Tomcat to tally double figures in scoring, finishing with 10 points and six rebounds. Sophomore forward Jasmin Jones (Pittsburgh/Wilkinsburg) (Pittsburgh/Wilkinsburg) added eight points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Thiel shot 30.6 percent (19-62) from the field, knocking down just 4-of-20 (20.0%) three-point attempts. They also managed to go just 4-of-9 (44.4%) from the free throw line.
Amy Dolsak's three-pointer with 14:41 to go in the opening half put the Titans out in front by two, 7-5, before outscoring the Tomcats 11-2 over the next 5:31 to go up by 11, 18-7, with just over nine minutes to go heading into the half. Junior forward Taylor Radeff (Sheffield Lake, Ohio/Brookside)'s (Sheffield Lake, Ohio/Brookside) layup as time expired trimmed the Westminster lead to seven, 28-21, going into the break.
In the second half Westminster pushed its lead to as many as 27 before registering the 23-point win.
The women's basketball squad will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 20 when it plays host to Geneva College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
