TOMCAT WRESTLERS CLAIM NINTH-STRAIGHT PAC TITLE

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 13) -- The Thiel College wresting squad posted its ninth-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) title Wednesday evening at the Rudy Marisa Field on the Waynesburg University campus.

Thiel finished with 145.5 points, followed by Washington & Jefferson College in second with 105.0 points and Waynesburg with 58.0. The win for the Tomcats was their 16th team title in the past 18 years.

The Tomcats had six individual champions with five of those earning their first individual conference title. Junior Andrew Riddle (Utica/Franklin) (Utica/Franklin) registered his third-straight conference crown, defeating W&J's Chris Price 8-2 in the championship and running his season record to 20-8.

Freshman Rob Miller (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) (Tranfer/Reynolds) won his first conference title at 125 by earning a pair of forfeits and improving to 24-4 on the season. Sophomore 133-pound Jeff Langdon (North East/North East) earned a 7-5 decision over Brandon Sampson of W&J to claim his first title and push his season mark to 15-5. Senior 149-pound Jared Hirtz (Uniontown/Albert Gallatin) (Uniontown/Albert Gallatin) posted a 12-6 decision over W&J's John Sabatelli to earn his first PAC title while freshman Alex Brown (Oakdale/Plum) (Oakdale/Plum) picked up the 157 pound championship by posting a pinfall win (2:15) over Waynesburg's Kevin Walsh. Junior 157-pound Scott Prinsen (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) posted his first conference championship by registering a pinfall win (2:16) over W&J's Colin Woods.

Senior 165-pound Bo Morrell (Cochranton/Cochranton) (Cochranton/Cochranton) and freshman Cris Gault (Andover, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) (Andover, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) each finished second, respectively.

The Tomcat wrestling squad will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 23 when they travel to Wabash College for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Qualifier.
