GREENVILLE, Pa. (Feb. 13) -- The Saint Vincent men's basketball team was able to rally from a four-point halftime deficit and post an 81-77 victory over Thiel College Wednesday evening at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Ian McCollough led the Bearcats (19-3) with 22 points and four rebounds. Joey Butler totaled 21 points, six assists, and four rebounds while B.J. McGill and Mike Medved added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Saint Vincent finished shooting 47.5 percent (29-61) from the floor and 28.6 percent (4-14) from three-point range while converting on 82.6 percent (19-23) of their free throw opportunities.
Senior forward Joe Herrmann (Hartstown/Jamestown) (Hartstown/Jamestown) led the Tomcats (9-12) with 24 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic) (Philadelphia/George Junior Republic) tallied 19 points, five assists and five rebounds while freshman forward Tommy Hall (Youngstown, Ohio/Campbell) (Youngstown, Ohio/Campbell) added 15 points, five rebounds and five blocks. Thiel shot 63.0 percent (29-46) from the floor and 64.3 percent (9-14) from three-point range while converting on 10-of-13 (76.9%) free throws. The Tomcats also finished with a 26-25 edge on the glass.
Thiel stretched its first half lead over Saint Vincent out to as many as 10, 35-25, with just over six minutes in the half before going into the break leading 40-36.
After a pair of McCollough free throws with 8:14 to play tied the game at 60-60, the Tomcats were able to push ahead 68-62 with 6:40 remaining. Medved's layup with 1:19 to play gave Saint Vincent a 75-74 lead and Butler's three-pointer with 1:06 remaining extended the Bearcats' lead to four, 78-74.Butler hit a pair of free throws down the stretch to give the Bearcats the four-point win.
Thiel returns to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday, Feb. 16 when it travels to Westminster College. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
