Roddy Fuller# (Campbell, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) each scored 10 points, but the La Roche College Redhawks snuck past the Tomcats, 46-43, in the opening round of the Chrons Classic at the Kerr Fitness and Sports Center Friday evening.
The loss, which featured 11 lead changes and 11 ties, dropped the Tomcats to 0-2 on the young campaign.
Thiel started slowly for the second consecutive game, shooting just over 26 percent from the floor, but entered the intermission down by a slim 18-17 margin. The 'Cats regrouped to shoot a solid 48 percent from the floor in the second stanza.
Dylan Grazier paced the Redhawks with 14 points, which included a perfect six-for-six night from the foul line. As a team, La Roche converted on 13 of 20 trips to the line.
Thiel had a slight advantage on the boards, out-rebounding the Redhawks, 31-27. Fuller pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.
The Tomcats return to action tomorrow in the second round of the Chrons Classic.
