TOMCAT WOMEN SNAP 21 GAME LOSING STREAK AGAINST W&J WITH 90-87 WIN

WASHINGTON, Pa. (Jan. 9) – The Thiel College women's basketball shot 52.9 percent (18-34) from three-point range and 49.2 percent (32-65) from the floor in its 90-87 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Washington & Jefferson College Wednesday evening at Henry Memorial Center.  The Tomcats snapped a 21-game losing streak to the Presidents with the win.  Junior guard Amber Bodrick (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) registered a game-high 34 points, connecting on 8-of-14 three-point attempts, to go along with eight rebounds.

All nine members of the Tomcat (6-5, 3-2) squad recorded at least two points in the game.  Junior guard Jena Cook (Brookville, Pa./Brookville) (Brookville/Brookville) totaled 14 points (4-9 3-point FG) while sophomore forward Jasmin Jones (Pittsburgh/Wilkinsburg) (Pittsburgh/Wilkinsburg) added 12 points and nine rebounds.  Freshman forward Kim Stitt (Hermitage/Hickory) (Hermitage/Hickory) chipped in with 11 points and seven boards.  The Tomcats finished with a 38-31 advantage on the glass.

W&J (9-4, 3-1) got 25 points and 12 rebounds from Maggie Gibson and 19 from Stephanie Smith.  Jen Rogers added 12 points while Emily Hays chipped in with 10.  The Presidents shot 52.1 percent (37-71) from the floor. 

Following a Rogers' jumper with 10:32 to go in the first the Tomcats, fueled by a 16-2 run, ran out to a 37-25 lead on a three ball by sophomore guard Michelle George (Windber/Windber) (Windber/Windber) with just under five to play in the half.  Hunt's layup with 2:39 in the half trimmed the Tomcat lead to nine (38-29) before Thiel went into the break with a 49-36 lead. 

W&J assumed its first second-half lead on Gibson's layup at the 6:13 mark, giving the Presidents a 68-67 advantage.  Thiel outscored W&J 17-6 over the next 2:47 and pushed its lead back to 10, 84-74, with 3:16 remaining.  Smith's layup with 53 seconds to play tied the game at 87-87 before Bodrick drilled her eighth three-pointer of the evening with 27 seconds left to give the Tomcats the 90-87 win. 

Thiel is set to return to action on Saturday, 12 when it travels to Saint Vincent College.  Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
