WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 26) -- The Thiel College women's basketball team avoided its fifth-straight loss Saturday by recording a 55-50 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Waynesburg University. Junior guard Amber Bodrick (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) filled the stat sheet for the Tomcats, finishing with 26 points, 12 rebounds, six steals, four blocks and three assists.
Thiel (7-9, 4-4) finished with a 41-38 rebounding advantage against Waynesburg (1-16, 0-8) and recorded a season-high 16 steals. Freshman forward Kim Stitt (Hermitage/Hickory) (Hermitage/Hickory) totaled 10 points and six rebounds while sophomore forward Jasmin Jones (Pittsburgh/Wilkinsburg) (Pittsburgh/Wilkinsburg) chipped in with seven points and six boards.
Elisha Jones led Waynesburg with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jeanette Wonsettler finished with 12 points and five rebounds while Michaelene Jones added 11 points and five rebounds.
Thiel, down 26-20 at the half, trailed by 11 (39-28) with just over 13 minutes remaining in the contest. A 15-4 run by the Tomcats, capped by a Bodrick three-pointer with 6:22 to play, tied the game at 43-43. A pair of Michaelene Jones free throws with just over a minute remaining tied the game at 50-50. Junior guard Catie Sieber (Glenshaw, Pa./North Hills) (Glenshaw/North Hills) nailed a three with 48 seconds on the clock to put the Tomcats back in front 53-50 and sophomore guard Michelle George (Windber/Windber)'s (Windber/Windber) free throws with 17 seconds remaining closed out the game for the Tomcats.
The Tomcats return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 30 when they host third-ranked Thomas More College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
