GREENVILLE, Pa. (Jan. 23) -- The Thiel College women's basketball team suffered a 65-54 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to visiting Grove City College Wednesday evening at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Grove City's (6-10, 2-5) Shannon Overdorff finished with a game-high 17 points to go along with four assists and four steals. Krista Beechy added 12 points and five rebounds. Grove City shot 39.4 percent (26-66) from the floor and hit just 3-of-13 three-point attempts.
Thiel (6-9, 3-4) junior guard Amber Bodrick (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) tallied 16 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. Junior guard Catie Sieber (Glenshaw, Pa./North Hills) (Glenshaw/North Hills) added 14 points and four rebounds while freshman forward Kim Stitt (Hermitage/Hickory) (Hermitage/Hickory) chipped in with six points and 10 boards. The Tomcats shot 29.5 percent (18-61) from the field and finished with a 48-41 advantage on the glass.
With the Wolverines lead by eight, 21-13, with just over nine minutes to play in the first, the Tomcats put together a 12-4 scoring run to tie the game at 25-25 with 3:44 to play in the period. The Wolverines scored the final six points of the half and went into the break sporting a a 31-15 lead.
Junior guard Jena Cook (Brookville, Pa./Brookville)'s (Brookville/Brookville) three-pointer with just under 16 minutes to go tied the game at 38-38. Grove City, fueled by an 11-3 scoring spurt, jumped out to a 49-41 lead with 7:39 to play. The Wolverines watched its lead swell to as many as 13 late in the second half prior to posting the 11-point victory.
The Tomcats will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 when it travels to PAC rival Waynesburg University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
