WESTMINSTER WOMEN ROLL TO 66-49 WIN AT THIEL

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Jan. 16) -- The Westminster College women's basketball team registered a 66-49 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Thiel College Wednesday evening at Beeghly Gymnasium.

Emilee Ackerman recorded a game-best 27 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Kaitlin McCarthy added 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists. The Titans (11-3, 4-2) shot 32.2 percent (17-53) from the field but converted on 30-of-37 free throws (81.1%) and finished with a 53-45 advantage on the glass.

Thiel (6-7, 3-3) sophomore guard Michelle George (Windber/Windber) (Windber/Windber) and sophomore forward Jasmin Jones (Pittsburgh/Wilkinsburg) (Pittsburgh/Wilkinsburg) each paced the Tomcats with 12 points. Jones totaled a game-high 11 rebounds while George chipped in with three rebounds and a pair of assists. The Tomcats finished shooting 23.1 percent (15-65) from floor and 53.1 percent (17-32) from the free throw line.

Jones' jumper with 8:37 to go in the first put the Tomcats in front by one, 14-13. The Titans outscored the Tomcats 10-2 over the next 3:31 and grabbed a 23-16 lead with just over five minutes before the break. Westminster led at the half 33-27.

The Titans came out hot in the second, going up by 10 (41-31) with just under 14 minutes to play. A 15-4 stretch pushed the visitor's lead to 20 (56-36) with just under seven minutes to go.

The Tomcats return to action on Saturday, Jan. 19 when they travel to Geneva College. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
