WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (Jan. 12) -- The Thiel College wrestling squad bounced back from an 0-2 start on Friday to finish with a 2-2 mark at Lycoming College's Budd Whitehill Duals. The event featured a 20-team pool that included ten of the top 30 squads in NCAA Division III, according to the latest Brute/Adidas NWCA Poll.
Thiel (6-2) suffered a 41-0 loss to top seed and eighth-ranked SUNY-Cortland in round one and was dealt a 23-16 loss by ninth seed and 25th ranked Wilkes University in round four action. The Tomcats posted a 29-18 victory against Rochester Institute of Technology to conclude Friday's action in round seven and returned Saturday to post a 23-21 victory over SUNY-Oswego in round 10.
Freshman 125-pound Rob Miller (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) (Transfer/Reynolds) went 3-1 at the event, improving his season overall record to 19-3. Sophomore 174-pound Jordan Gaudette (St. Cloud, Fla./St. Cloud) (St. Cloud, Fla./St. Cloud) also finished 3-1 while freshman 197-pound Cris Gault (Andover, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) (Andover, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) and junior Andrew Riddle (Utica/Franklin) (Utica/Franklin) each finished with a pair of victories.
The Tomcat wrestling team returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 19 when they travel to Baldwin-Wallace College for a 7 p.m. dual meet.
