THIEL WOMEN FALL AT SAINT VINCENT 84-61

LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 12) -- The Thiel College women's basketball team fell at Saint Vincent College 84-61 Saturday evening.

Saint Vincent's (4-9) Janelle Reed registered a game-high 32 points while Laura Klimchock added 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. The Bearcats shot 40.0 percent (30-75) from the field and finished with a 46-38 advantage on the glass.

Thiel (6-6) freshman forward Kim Stitt (Hermitage/Hickory) (Hermitage/Hickory) led the Tomcats with a career-high 17 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Amber Bodrick (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) added 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals while junior guard Catie Sieber (Glenshaw, Pa./North Hills) (Glenshaw/North Hills) chipped in with 12 points and three assists. The Tomcats shot 43.3 percent (26-60) from the floor, but hit on just 5-of-19 three-point attempts and 4-of-11 free throws. They also committed a season-high 31 turnovers in the loss.

Thiel got off to a fast start, scoring the game's first six points. Saint Vincent took a one-point lead (14-13) on a pair of Klimchock free throws with just over 11 minutes to play before Sieber knocked down a three-pointer to put the Tomcats back in front by two, 16-14, with 10:25 to go in the first. After going down by as many as 14 late in the first half the Tomcats trimmed the halftime deficit to 10, 39-29.

A Stitt jumper at the 17:25 mark cut the Saint Vincent lead to nine, 45-36). The Bearcats responded with a 8-0 run covering 2:56 to go ahead by 19, 55-46, with 13:16 to play. Saint Vincent extended its second half lead to as many as 26 before posting the 23-point win.

Thiel returns to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Wednesday, Jan. 16 when it hosts Westminster College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
