GREENVILLE, Pa. (Dec. 8) -- The Thiel College wrestling program celebrated its 50th year anniversary Saturday evening by posting a 30-9 non-conference dual meet victory over visiting Baldwin-Wallace College at Beeghly Gymnasium. A number of past Tomcat greats returns to take part in the festivities, which were kicked off by a motivating speech by Kurt Angle, 1996 Olympic gold medalist and two-time NCAA Division I champion at Clarion University.
The Tomcats (3-0) picked up four straight wins to start the match. Freshman Rob Miller (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) (Transfer/Reynolds) earned a pin fall victory (2:08) over Tyler Erwin at 125 and junior Ben Mellring (Cochranton/Franklin) picked up a 5-4 decision against Brian Bucher at 133. Sophomore 141-pound Damian Rose (Freedom/Freedom) won by fall (4:42) against Eric Schubert and freshman Eric Zelina (Edinboro/General McLane) notched a pin fall victory (6:05) against Scott Haber at 149.
Baldwin-Wallace (4-3-1) saw Joe Incorvaia wrestle to a 7-2 decision over freshman Chris Lytle (Bridgeville/Chartiers Valley) (Bridgeville/Chartiers Valley) at 157 and Geno Russo earn an 8-4 decision against junior Scott Prinsen (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) at 165 before sophomore Jordan Gaudette (St. Cloud, Fla./St. Cloud) (St. Cloud, Fla./St. Cloud) posted a 7-2 decision over Jeremy Feador at 174 and junior Andrew Riddle (Utica/Franklin) (Utica/Franklin) post a 9-3 decision over Antonio Campea at 184.
Baldwin-Wallace's Andrew Scavuzzo registered a 6-1 decision over freshman Cris Gault (Andover, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) (Andover, Ohio/Pymantuing Valley) at 197 before sophomore Mike Edwards (Greenville/Reynolds) picked up a 5-0 decision over Mike Pelton at 285.
The Tomcats will return to action on Friday, Jan. 11 at Lycoming College's Budd Whitehill Duals. Matches are set to get underway at 9 a.m.
