GREENVILLE, Pa. (Dec. 7) -- The Thiel College wrestling squad saw its lead over Washington & Jefferson College shrink to just three, 15-12, after the 174-pound match, but the Tomcats responded by winning the final three matches en route to a 24-14 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) dual meet win over the Presidents Friday night at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Freshman Rob Miller (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) (Transfer/Reynolds) opened with a pin fall win (5:28) against Brandon Samson at 125 before freshman Jacob Mohr (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) was awarded a forfeit at 133. W&J claimed the next three matches at 141, 149 and 157 to trim the Thiel lead to 15-12. Junior Scott Prinsen (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) earned a 5-3 decision against Mike Kulik at 165 to stretch the Tomcat lead to 18-12. Mike Franks picked up a 9-2 decision over senior Logan Malie (Sharon/Sharon) at 174 to once again cut the lead to three, 18-15.
Junior Andrew Riddle (Utica/Franklin) (Utica/Franklin) cruised to a 12-5 decision over Chris Price at 184 and freshman Cris Gault (Andover, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) (Andover, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) notched a 5-2 victory over Dan Law at 197. Sophomore Mike Edwards (Greenville/Reynolds) outlasted Josh Brewer at 285 to earn a 7-2 double over time decision.
Thiel (3-0, 1-0) returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 8 when it hosts Baldwin-Wallace College at 6 p.m.
