MARIETTA, Ohio (Nov. 24) – Thiel College sophomore guard Amber Bodrick (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) finished with a game-high 27 points and nine rebounds in the Tomcats' 79-62 win against Marietta College in the opening round of the Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot Tournament Saturday evening.
Junior guard Jena Cook (Brookville, Pa./Brookville) (Brookfield/Brookfield) added 17 points, with 14 of those coming in the second half. Cook hit 5-of-8 three-point attempts and totaled four rebounds. Freshman forward Kim Stitt (Hermitage/Hickory) (Hermitage/Hickory) finished with eight points and nine rebounds while senior forward Elysa Farrell (Greenville/Kennedy Catholic) (Greenville/Kennedy Catholic) chipped in with nine rebounds.
Thiel (1-1) finished with a 42-37 advantage on the glass and shot 49.0 percent from the floor. The Tomcats managed to shoot 59.1 percent (16-27) from the floor in the second half.
Amanda Carraher finished with 22 points to lead Marietta (0-3) while Justine Pagenhardt added 13.
After maintaining a slight advantage through most of the opening period the Tomcats were able to carry at 37-34 lead into the half. Whitney Swain's layup at the 11:38 mark of the second period tied the game at 49-49 before Thiel strung together a 13-2 run over the next 5:27 to grab a 62-51 lead with 6:11 to play.
The Tomcats will play in the championship game of the Turkey Shoot Tournament on Sunday against the winner of Saturday's New Jersey City University/Denison College contest at 3 p.m.
