Freshman distance runner Meri Steinmetz recorded a lifetime-best time and set a new school record in the 5,000-meter run Saturday during the Kent State Tune-Up held at Kent State University.
 
Steinmetz finished the 5,000-meter run Saturday in 19 minutes and 16.30 seconds, which was good enough for 21^st-place in the event. Steinmetz also set a new school record in the one-mile run earlier this season when she crossed the finish line in 5:38.87 for second-place at the Dan Kinsey Invite, which was hosted by Oberlin College.
