David Saur is in his first season as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program at Thiel College. Saur has spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach with the women’s program. He is involved in all aspects of the program, including on-court coaching, game preparation, preseason workouts, scouting, recruiting and daily operations. Coach Saur will specialize in the development of the Tomcat back court players.
Saur has worked several basketball camps/summer workouts over the last few years. One of Saur’s summer stints includes working at the Cecil Kirk Recreation Center in Baltimore, Md. helping conduct pro players' individual workout sessions. Players who Saur has worked with include: Rudy Gay (Memphis Grizzles), Dajuan Summers (Detroit Pistons) and Donte Greene (Sacramento Kings). This past summer Saur was a camp coach at three Hoop Group Elite Boy’s Camp sessions along with working a session of the Keystone State High School Girl’s Recruiting Camp. Saur is also an area director for HoopEd Basketball Camps/Clinics. He has run skill camps for youth in the Baltimore area the past three summers along with running a HoopEd sponsored Thiel College Women’s Basketball spring clinic.
The past two summers Saur has conducted his own individual workout sessions for local Baltimore college and high school players. Two of the most notable players in attendance included Marah Strickland (University of South Carolina) and Johnny Higgins (Marshall University). Coach Saur is also responsible for coordinating and running the Thiel College men’s basketball preseason conditioning and workout program along with speed and agility training for out of season student-athletes.
Saur is a native of Sykesville, Md. and a 2007 graduate of Laurinburg Prep (Laurinburg, N.C.). While at Laurinburg he averaged 14.5 ppg and helped lead the Tigers to a top 15 finish in the USA Today prep school rankings. Saur will be graduating in May 2011 from Thiel with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology along with a minor in coaching.
