Isaiah Schafer enters his first year on the Thiel Track & Field/Cross Country staff in 2025. Schafer joins Thiel after a highly successful collegiate career at the Division I and II levels in throws.
Schafer won the NCAA Division II National Championship in both the indoor and outdoor seasons in the shot put in 2022 at Davenport University with throws of 19.00m and 19.89m, respectively. His 19.89m throw was the eighth-best throw in Division II history. He also earned a sixth-place finish in the discus in teh 2022 outdoor season to earn two First Team All-American honors.Â
He also earned CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American honors in 2021, becoming the first Davenport male track and field athlete to earn the distinction.
Schafer comes to Thiel after spending two years at the University of Minnesota where he earned First Team Academic All-American and Academic All-Big Ten honors. He won numerous events for the Golden Gophers and competed in the shot put, discus and hammer throw at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. Schafer finished 15th at the NCAA West Regional in the shot put with a toss of 19.07m.
Schafer earned his Bachelor of Sport Management from Davenport in 2022 and his Masters of Education in Sport Management with a minor in Integrative Leadership from Minnesota in 2025.
