GREENVILLE, Pa. (March 25) -- Thiel College Men's Basketball players
Marlon Ellerbee (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill) and
John Morgan (Indianapolis, Ind./Lebanon) were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team Tuesday.
The CSC Academic All-District program recognizes student-athletes that excel on the court and in the classroom. To be eligible for academic all-district status, a student-athlete must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or start in at least two-thirds of the team's games. An undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
Ellerbee, a graduate student pursuing a Master's of Business Administration Degree, has a 3.83 graduate cumulative GPA and serves as a graduate assistant in the athletic department, assisting with gameday operations and sports information.Â
Ellerbee became the 12th player in program history to score 1,000 points in a career as he tallied a season-best 19 points, grabbed a team-leading nine boards and posted game highs in assists (four) and steals (three) in Thiel's 77-52 win over Waynesburg on Jan. 18. Ellerbee started all 24 games this season while averaging 11 points, six rebounds and 2.4 assists.
Morgan is a junior pursuing a degree in exercise science. He boasts a team-best 3.75 cumulative GPA and works as a student worker on gamedays.
He appeared in all 24 games this season and totaled double-digit points twice, inlcuding a season-best 12 points on 4-of-6 from deep at Allegheny on Jan. 15. Morgan grabbed 10 boards in 12 minutes of action against Westminster, a Thiel 77-68 win, on Dec. 4.
