Six Tomcats earn CSC Academic All-District Track & Field / Cross Country Team accolades

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Six Thiel College student-athletes were named to the 2022-23 Academic All-District Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams on Wednesday, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC).
 
Honorees are selected based on their performances in athletics and in the classroom. To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District consideration, student-athletes must be a starter or top reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percentage of the team's games and reached sophomore status.
 
Thiel's men's honorees included Matt Beuermann (Tasmania, Australia/) and Brock Newsome (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde).
 
Beuermann was a member of the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team that broke the school record this year. 
 
Beuermann graduated May 7 with summa cum laude honors. A communications studies and english-professional writing specialization major, he graduated with a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average and received the dean's key. 
 
Beuermann, a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, Omicron Delta Kappa, Lambda Sigma and Sigma Tau Delta, was one his class's valedictorians. He was also one of Thiel's PAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year representatives.
 
Newsome was also a member of the Distance Medley Relay team that currently holds the school record. He also holds the school record for the men's indoor mile run with a time of 4:28.58. He was also an All-PAC honoree in the outdoor men's 1,500-meter run. Newsome is a dual-sport athlete, also earning Academic All-District honors in the fall for men's soccer.
 
Newsome graduated May 7 with cum laude honors. An accounting and business administration finance track major, Newsome graduate with a 3.74 grade-point average and received the dean's key. Newsome, a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, has been named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll three times.
 
Thiel's women's honorees included Lillianna Briscoe (Beaver Falls, Pa./Quigley Catholic), Jade Rhoads (Carlton, Pa./Maplewood), Hannah Strott (Mogadore, Ohio/Field) and Kaylee Suarez (Youngstown, Ohio/Mineral Ridge).
 
Briscoe is a member of the Distance Medley Relay team that currently holds the school record this year.
 
A junior communication sciences and disorders major who owns a 3.70 grade-point average, Briscoe is a six-time dean's list student, and has also been named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll once. She is also a member of Chi Alpha Sigma. 
 
Rhoads, a member of the cross-country team, finished 83rd at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Cross Country Championships in October.
 
Rhoads graduated May 7 with cum laude and departmental honors. A psychology and neuroscience major, Rhoads graduated with a 3.74 cumulative grade-point average. A member of Chi Alpha Sigma, Rhoads earned the dean's key at graduation.
 
Strott currently holds the school record in the women's indoor 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:16.80.
 
Strott graduated May 7 with summa cum laude and departmental honors. An exercise science major, Strott graduated with a 3.88 cumulative grade-point average, and also earned the dean's key. A member of Chi Alpha Sigma, she earned PAC Academic Honor Roll accolades three times. She also earned CSC Academic All-District honors in the fall for women's soccer.
 
Suarez currently holds the school record in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.61 meters. She also repeated as champion in the PAC Women's Indoor Track & Field High Jump with a mark of 1.57 meters, a conference championship meet record.
 
Suarez graduated May 7 with summa cum laude and departmental honors. A psychology major, Suarez graduated with a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average, and also earned the dean's key. A member of Psi Chi, Lambda Sigma and Chi Alpha Sigma, she has earned PAC Academic Honor Roll accolades three times.
 
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in late June.
