Athletics accomplishments celebrated at second annual Tommys

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in conjunction with the Department of Athletics hosted the second annual Tommys Sunday night at the William A. Passavant Center.
 
Recognizing academic success, as well as team and individual athletic achievement, eight major awards were voted on and distributed by members of Thiel's SAAC.
 
The following is a list of Tommy award winners:

Women: Danielle Aulet, women's volleyball
Men: Andre Williams, track & field
 
Newcomer of the Year
 
Women: Brooke Talbot, women's volleyball
Men: Cameron Long, men's volleyball
 
Adversity Award
 
Nate Lucas, baseball
 
Dual Sport Athlete Award
 
Women: Hannah Strott, soccer, cross country, track & field
Men: Jared Curcio, football, wrestling
 
Upset of the Year
 
Men's basketball: The sixth-seeded Tomcats upset the third-seeded Geneva Golden Tornadoes 99-84 on the road in the quarterfinals of the PAC Championship Tournament.
 
Moment of the Year
 
Women's volleyball team's PAC Championship Tournament semifinal 3-1 win over Chatham at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium on November 3. You had to be there to believe the atmosphere.

The Tomcats earned the No. 1 seed in the PAC Championship Tournament for the first time in program history in 2022. Thiel advanced to the title match for the fourth time in school history (2022, 2012, 2010, 2009).

Thiel's magical season culminated with a National Championship in April in the Cheer Spirit Rally Open Division at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida. It was the cheer team's first national title and its second appearance at the NCA College Nationals. The Tomcats went undefeated on the year with four first-place finishes, two highest scores overall and two zero-deduction routines at Nationals.
