ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The men's volleyball team (2-2) picked up a pair of wins on the second day of the Elmira Tournament by defeating the City College of New York 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-17) and Hilbert College 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-13).
Against CCNY,
Dante McCoy (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) led the Tomcats in kills with 17 while teammates
Andrew Pohlod (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and
Michael Whitelock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) each had eight and
Kyle Turkalj (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) had seven. On defense,
Charlie Tindall (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) had seven digs and
Ian Phillips (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) had five.
Corey Hamilton (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood) notched 34 assists.
In the win over Hilbert, once again McCoy had a strong performance notching 15 kills and seven digs while Turkalj had eight kills and Phillips added four and six digs.
Colin Vitale (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) contributed five digs in the win while Hamilton totaled 26 assists.
After the wins, Coach Steve Brewer had this to say; "After a tough first day, it was great to see the guys bounce back and pick up two wins on day two. The leadership from McCoy, Hamilton and Turkalj really shined through and provided a spark for the whole team."
The Tomcats will next compete at Penn State Behrend on Wednesday, January 25. The match is set for 7 pm.
