Men Drop 78-68 Decision at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio – The men's basketball squad suffered a 78-68 setback against the 19th-ranked College of Wooster in the opening round of the “Mose” Hole / Kiwanis Classic Thursday evening at Wooster's Timken Gymnasium.

Pacing the Tomcats were Anthony Harvey (New Castle, Pa./New Castle), who finished with 17 points, six steals, and three rebounds and Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic), who totaled 17 points, four assists, and two rebounds.

Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran East) added 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting in 29 minutes off of the Tomcat bench. Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) added seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Thiel (7-3) shot 40.0 percent (22-55) from the floor and converted 47.1 percent (8-17) of its three-point attempts. 

Doug Thorpe came off of the Fighting Scots bench to register a game-high 21 points in 25 minutes of action. Justin Hallowell finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists while Justin Warnes added 11 points and four rebounds.

Wooster (8-3) shot 41.5 percent (22-53) from the floor, finished with a 46-29 edge on the glass, and outscored the Thiel bench 33-12.

A three-pointer by A.J. Forbes (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Pompano Beach) with 6:02 to go in the first cut Wooster's lead to one, 24-23, but the Fighting Scots finished the half on a 16-5 run to go into the break leading 40-28.

After watching Wooster push its second half lead to as many as 15, the Tomcats were able to trim the lead down to six, 46-40, with a three by Chace McKinney (Boardman, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) with 12:31 to play.

Rozenblad's layup with 46 seconds to go pulled the Tomcats to within six, 74-68, but the Fighting Scots held on to post the 10-point win.

Thiel returns to action on Friday, Dec. 29 against Hiram College at 5:30 p.m. to conclude its participation in the "Mose" Hole / Kiwanis Classic.
