Corey Brown (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) (
Reynolds H.S.) highlighted performances by Thiel College at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship at Delaware Valley College on Saturday.
The sophomore 133-pounder went 2-1 and advanced to the finals. Brown fell to Nick Garber, 5-0, in the championship match. Earlier in the day, Brown won a, 15-2, major decision over Oscar Trujillo of Wabash and downed Delaware Valley's Zach Haynes, 6-4, in the semifinals.
Sophomore
Alec Miller (Transfer, Pa./Grove City) (Transfer, Pa./Grove City)went 1-2 at 165lbs, falling in the championship bracket, but rebounding to win a match in the consolation bracket. Miller defeated Graham Youngs of Wabash, 4-2, before falling to Timothy Pope in the third-place match via pinfall in 2:59.
Patrick Morris (Graysville, Pa./West Greene) (Graysville, Pa./West Greene)also went 1-2 at 184. Morris' only win of the day came via a, 4-2, decision over Stefen Firmstone in the championship bracket.
Thiel 285-pounder
Kraig Smith (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) went 1-2, as well, earning a, 3-1, win in the consolation bracket over Olivet's Jake Ceslick.
The Tomcats took ninth place out of 10 teams at the event with 33 points.
