Pete Battisti secured a starting position as the fullback and defensive back during the 1940 and 1941 seasons. From his fullback position, Battisti helped lead the Tomcats to their first undefeated season in 1941. His hard running, fine blocking on offense and outstanding play in the defensive secondary left little doubt about his football ability. Battisti was named to the All-State Team following the 1941 season.

Returning from his service in World War II, Battisti was selected co-captain of the 1946 football team and won the starting quarterback position. Before the 1946 season was over, he had played every position in the backfield. His triple threat run, pass or kick led one of Thiel’s finest football teams to an undefeated season, the second in Thiel football history. In his four years of football at Thiel, Thiel won 23 of the 29 games Battisti played.

Battisti played in every game of Thiel’s longest winning streak (15 games); the two undefeated seasons of 1941 (7-0) and 1946 (7-0) and the first game of the 1947 season. His outstanding ability on the football field and in the classroom was recognized by Thiel in 1949 when he was selected Outstanding Senior Male Athlete. His play won him a backfield position on the All-Time Thiel Football Team.
