Penny Atis was the top softball pitcher for three years, a vital member of the volleyball team and one of the finest women’s basketball players in Thiel history.

During her senior year, she was honored at the athletic banquet as the Most Valuable Lady Cat cager. At the end of her stellar basketball career, she was the number one scorer (1,107) and rebounder (823) in Thiel women’s history. More remarkable is the fact that she was only one of few players at the time (men and women) to have scored over 1,100 points and pull down 700 boards in a career.

Atis’ prowess extended to the volleyball floor where she led the team in serving points (307) while occupying the middle hitter slot. Her leadership was one of the reasons for the team’s 28 wins in the 1983-84 season, a first in Thiel’s athletic history.

Atis was also the top softball hurler for her first three springs. In addition to being a three-sport athlete, she maintained a 3.1 GPA and graduated with 11 varsity letters.
