A native of Irwin, Pa., and a graduate of Norwin High School, John Stevens helped the Tomcats capture their first two PAC titles in wrestling in 1963 and 1964. In addition to the team’s success, Stevens won individual conference titles at 167 pounds in 1963 and 1964.

Stevens went 9-0 in the regular season in 1962-63 with six pins, and he went on to win his first individual PAC title. In 1963-64, he went 10-0 in the regular season with five pins. Stevens went on to earn his second consecutive conference title at 167 pounds.

The 1963-64 wrestling team, which went 10-0 in the regular season, was inducted into the hall of fame in 2009. In addition to Stevens, four other wrestlers from the 1963-64 team won individual titles at the PAC Championships, including: Dennis Riley (123 pounds), Bill Harpst (137 pounds), Bob Weeber (157 pounds) and Chuck Evanoff (177 pounds).
