Reading competed in both track & field and football while at Thiel, earning a combined eight letters. A three-year starter on the offensive line, Reading lined up at tackle for the 1967 Presidents’ Athletic Conference championship team. Reading also garnered attention as a thrower at the league level, earning a spot on the 1969 all-PAC squad. He established the Thiel record in the discus with a throw of 147 feet, seven inches - a mark which, at the time of his induction 40 years later, still stands.
