NORTHBROOK, Ill. — Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) has announced that Thiel College junior defensive lineman
Tim Taylor (Girard, Pa., Erie Cathedral Prep) has been nominated for the 2011 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Taylor, a two-year member of the Tomcat football program, is also a member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). As a member of the MDA Tim participates in several yearly events, including walk-a-thons and the Stride and Ride event, to raise awareness for muscular dystrophy. In addition, Taylor has helped other nonprofit organizations such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation by participating in several of their walk-a-thons.
As a member of the Tomcat football program Taylor has continued his work within the community by participating as an escort for the elderly in the annual Snowflake Ball held at St. Paul Homes and as an instructor at the College's free youth football camp for local fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. Taylor is a member of the College's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and volunteers with the Recylcemania program by collecting recyclable materials from bins across various locations on campus. Taylor also volunteers as an usher at St. Michaels Catholic Church.
As a member of the National Student Speech and Hearing Language Association (NSSHLA) at Thiel, Taylor has participated in raising money for children with speech and hearing disorders. Additionally, Taylor plans on serving as the Student Government Association (SGA) representative for NSSHLA during the 2011-12 academic year.
This year marks the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team's 20th year honoring college football players at all levels of competition who stand out for their “good works” in the community. Since 1992, selection to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® has become the gold standard for off-the-field character and leadership for college football players. The honor is widely considered the sport's preeminent community service award.
